Mic = Micron. The term micron and the symbol μ stands for one-thousandth of a millimeter, 0.001 mm
PET = Polyethylene terephthalate is a polyester. Gives the nessecary stifness to the pouch.
PE = Polyethylene or Polythene is the most common plastic.
BOPP = Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene. Gives the product a nice matt finish.
EVOH = Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol: is a formal copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol (nylon film).
What is ‘Metallized’ film (MET-PET)?
Metallized film is a plastic film which has a thin coat of meta applied to it. The aluminum-coated film has a bright and shiny decorative surface effect. Additionally metallized film has added barrier properties and in a laminated structure can significantly enhance both gas and moister protection. Metallized film is often seen in applications in pouches for snacks, coffee and candy.
What is ‘Laminated’ material?
A material which is composed of multiple layers of different materials which are joined together to form a single sheet. The objective of combining different materials together is to create a new material with a combination of properties not available from any single material.
What is the difference between Nylon film and Polyethylene?
Nylon is good for oxygen barrier and impact strength, but the price is high.
Polyethylene such as PE have their own characteristics and is a lot cheaper.
